Meet Sheridan Dodge

As an organizational development consultant, one thing that I have learned about workplace teams is this: most people need help holding what we call "crucial conversations."

These are the conversations that usually involve opposing viewpoints and high emotions.  In the workplace, examples of these conversations might include a failure to meet expectations, rude behavior, bad attitudes or a frustrating lack of follow-through. Sometimes they are related to people feeling disrespected, disappointed or unheard. It can be something as simple as a difference in opinion or as complicated as a long-standing history of unacceptable behavior. Either way, addressing the issue directly may seem daunting, to the point where the conversation is put off for too long, or never happens at all. That is where I can help.

Based on my work with hundreds of teams, and seeing people at all levels of the organization struggle with uncomfortable conversations, I developed two highly interactive, evidence-based workshops that address the issues that I see most commonly (and that I believe to be the most important when it comes to success in both life and work):

1) How to approach crucial conversations (around any topic) in a way that minimizes emotion, sets both parties up for success and focuses on mutually beneficial solutions, and

2) How to address burnout in the workplace, which is another commonly avoided topic of conversation that has a profound impact on both work outcomes and people’s physical and mental well-being.

My goal is to help create higher functioning teams and individuals by giving people the opportunity to increase their self-awareness and learn practical skills for initiating and elevating the conversation in their workplace.

The Harvard Business Review reports that burnout - the mental and physical exhaustion people feel when the demands of work consistently exceed the amount of energy they have available - has been called the epidemic of the modern workplace.

Lower productivity, disengaged employees and negative attitudes - all leading to toxic workplaces - are the result.
